1 Earthbag houses, anyone? on Thu Mar 17, 2011 6:47 pm

I recently found a book on earthbag building from the library, and was hooked!

DH, well, not so much. I think mainly b/c he wants to be sure there is someone out there who is experienced in that kind of thing. Also, there is the fact that we have a son who will be between 6 and 7 yo by that time. Not sure how much help/for how long he would be.

Me, I think it would be cool to be able to build our own house (with three or four other people to speed things along), and earthbag building looks considerably less complicated than a wofati as far as structural engineering.

Any other thoughts/opinions out there?

Earth-bags should insulate like adobe if not better and can be reinforced easily with rebate or even bamboo. I have seen people use cob mortar to finish it and looks good, but also have seen is look ugly too. Depends on the artist I guess.
